LP Suspends Alex Otti, Senators Kingibe, Others Indefinitely

The Labour Party (LP) has announced the indefinite suspension of key political figures, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi. The suspension follows allegations of anti-party activities.

This decision comes after the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party established a five-member Disciplinary Committee on May 2, 2025.

The committee, led by Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, with National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim and three others, was tasked with investigating allegations against Otti and others.

After concluding its inquiry, the committee submitted a detailed report to the party leadership.

During its meeting on May 7, 2025, the National Executive reviewed the findings and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s recommendations.

According to a statement issued by the National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the suspended members are barred from all party activities, with immediate effect. Relevant institutions, including the Nigeria Governors Forum, the National Assembly, and INEC, have been notified of the decision.

The party clarified that Nenadi Usman, a former minister, was not included in the suspension list as she is not a Labour Party member.

Accusing Usman of hypocrisy and corruption, the party urged her to disclose the details of her plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

LP also criticized her allegiance to another political party despite her affiliation with the Obidient Support Group.

The Labour Party emphasized its commitment to financial transparency, citing INEC’s recent audit of its accounts, which received commendation.

The party dismissed Usman’s corruption allegations, describing them as baseless and defamatory. LP also reiterated its opposition to any coalition or merger plans, asserting its readiness to contest the 2027 general elections as an independent entity.
