The All Democratic Alliance (ADA), spearheaded by political heavyweights in the country such as former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi is gaining momentum nationwide.
The proposed coalition party aims to create a platform to challenge the All Progressives Congress and the re election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
It may also redefine Imo State’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 governorship elections.
Political analysts predict that ADA’s emergence, if registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will attract a wave of high-profile defectors and groups in Imo.
Here are some notable politicians and factions expected to align with the coalition in Imo State:
Emeka Ihedioha and Rebuild Imo Organisation
Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha is a key political figure likely to join ADA.
Known for his strong ties to Atiku Abubakar, Ihedioha has remained without a political party since his exit from the PDP in 2023.
His Rebuild Imo Organisation, renowned for its grassroots strength, is expected to provide significant support base to ADA as Ihedioha prepares for a potential governorship bid in 2027.
Charles Ugwu
Former Minister of Commerce and Industry, Charles Ugwu is another likely addition. A close ally of Ihedioha, Ugwu’s political experience, having served as State Chairman of the PDP, could help to strengthen ADA’s position in Imo State.
Achike Udenwa
Ex-Governor Achike Udenwa, a veteran politician may also move to ADA.
Udenwa had expressed dissatisfaction with the PDP over the internal crisis rocking the party and has been involved in coalition talks.
The former Minister alongside other coalition leaders in the country had accompanied Atiku Abubakar to consult former President Muhammadu Buhari on coalition talks.
Mazi Chima Amadi and The Mazi Organization (TMO)
Mazi Chima Amadi, an emerging political figure in Imo State with governorship aspirations, may likely align with ADA. He has not been aligned to any political party since he began his political moves to become governor in 2027.
Amadi’s The Mazi Organization (TMO) could boost ADA’s appeal among Imo voters if he decides to join the yet to be registered political party.
Emeka Nwajiuba
Former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, is another notable politician who is said to be linked to ADA.
His political expertise and national reach could further solidify the coalition’s presence in Imo. He is said to be among chieftains of the defunct Congress For Progressive Change, CPC, neck deep in coalition moves.
Displaced Imo PDP Politicians and Aggrieved APC Members
Disgruntled members of the PDP, sidelined during recent leadership changes in the party could consider ADA as a refuge.
Similarly, frustrated APC chieftains and members, disillusioned by marginalization within the party for a long period may also defect to the new party if approved.
Remnants of Atiku Loyalists and Non-Aligned Politicians
Loyalists of Atiku Abubakar in Imo are believed to be eyeing ADA as a platform to consolidate their political influence. Also, non-aligned politicians in the State who have remained politically neutral are expected to join the coalition as it gains traction.
Uche Nwosu:
Nwosu is a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, but he may be compelled to seek political refuge in ADA if perhaps the conditions are right and if he wants to contest for another public office again.
He had vied for Imo governorship in 2019 on the platform of Action Alliance, AA, when his father in law, Rochas Okorocha was governor of Imo State. Okorocha is of the APC. It is however not known at the moment if he is still nursing another governorship ambition.
Uche Onyeagocha: The former Secretary to Imo State Government may find ADA attractive having also left the PDP with Ihedioha. The new party, if registered, may provide the much needed political platform for the lawyer cum activist to aspire for another elective office after a brief stay at the House of Representatives.
