PDP Finally Reinstates Samuel Anyanwu As National Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reinstated Samuel Anyanwu to his position as National Secretary, following extensive consultations and deliberations among party leaders.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Ambassador Iliya Damagum, the Acting National Chairman of the party, during a press briefing attended by prominent stakeholders, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Damagum acknowledged the reinstatement decision as challenging but noted that it was ultimately backed by the majority of party members and organs.

“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary, that is why I said it was a critical decision,” Damagum stated.

He further revealed that the planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting has been cancelled in favor of an extended Caucus meeting.

“We will have an expanded Caucus. At the next Caucus, we will take a decision leading to a proper NEC,” Damagum explained.

The Acting National Chairman also addressed logistical concerns raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the party’s plans.

“Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice, so what we will have on June 30th is an extended Caucus,” he clarified.

Governor Bala Mohammed and Saraki, who were part of the decision-making process, expressed optimism that Anyanwu’s reinstatement would strengthen the National Working Committee (NWC) and enhance the party’s internal cohesion.

The decision comes at a critical time for the PDP, as it seeks to navigate internal challenges and position itself strategically ahead of future political contests.

Samuel Anyanwu’s return to the NWC is seen by many as a reconciliatory move aimed at fostering unity within the party’s ranks.

Party insiders describe the decision as part of a broader effort to stabilize the PDP’s leadership and address lingering grievances among stakeholders.
