Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, is among a host of prominent Nigerian political heavyweights who have converged at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for a major media conference organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The event has drawn politicians across opposition lines in what appears to be the boldest attempt yet at forming a united political front.
The gathering features a mix of former presidential candidates, governors, senators, and top political influencers, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flag bearer Peter Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, and ex-Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Aregbesola, former Osun State governor and interim national chairman of the ADC, as well as former Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal, have also arrived at the conference.
The gathering cuts across political parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and ADC — hinting at a strategic alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Interestingly, the event faced an early setback after the original venue — Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro — cancelled the booking just hours before the scheduled kickoff.
The hotel cited “internal compliance” as the reason for the last-minute withdrawal, a decision that sparked public attention after Dele Momodu posted a screenshot of the cancellation notice on social media.
