The Labour Party (LP) in Imo State has drawn a sharp line, declaring it will not follow Peter Obi to his new political home, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
State Chairman of the party, Calistus Ihejiagba said that the LP remains strong and independent, dismissing fears of a mass defection.
“Labour Party will continue to exist in Imo; we are going nowhere,” Ihejiagba stated. “We will work towards making the party stronger in Imo. Our party is still the masses’ party, and we’re here to stay.” he told The Sun.
Obi’s move to ADC has sparked heated debates, with some suggesting his loyalists in Imo and across the South Easr might jump ship.
Meanwhile, the ADC in Imo is being rapidly transformed into the stronghold of former governor, Emeka Ihedioha.
At a meeting with his Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM) at his Civic Centre residence in Owerri, Ihedioha declared: “My party, your party, our party is now ADC. That is the way to go. That is the party for all of us.”
Ihedioha has instructed his political family to assume control of ADC structures across the 27 LGAs, setting the stage for a major showdown in 2027.
