The House of Representatives Committee on Nutrition and Food Security is set to hold a three-day National Summit on Nutrition and Food Security from Tuesday, July 8 to Thursday, July 10, 2025.
This comes in the wake of serious allegations raised by Dr. Philip Njemanze, Chairman of the Global Prolife Alliance (GPA), who accused biotechnology sponsors of undermining Nigeria’s food sovereignty and exploiting the nation’s resources for global bio-exploitation.
In a letter addressed to Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor, Chairman of the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, and dated June 28, 2025, Dr. Njemanze stated: “Certain biotechnology sponsors have deliberately funded Boko Haram insurgents, razed farms of natural crops, and coerced displaced farmers into adopting genetically modified (GM) seeds. This deliberate act captures Nigeria’s food security and promotes a broader agenda of bio-exploitation.”
He further highlighted the involvement of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the alleged scheme.
The Foundation sponsored the passage of the National Biosafety Management Agency Act (NBMA 2015) and the National Health Act (NHA 2014), creating the legal framework for seizing Nigeria’s food security. These laws have facilitated the harvesting of women’s ovarian eggs in exchange for GMO seeds, destined for tissue and organ cloning,” Dr. Njemanze explained in the letter.
Raising alarm over devastating health implications, the GPA chairman said:“It is estimated that ten million Nigerian women will die annually from complications of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, including liver failure, kidney failure, cancer, infection, and infertility. This is the result of an industry valued at USD 30 trillion globally, which thrives on organ cloning and exploitation.”
He described the alleged strategy as economic sabotage.
“The use of insurgency to destroy natural crops and force farmers into adopting GM seeds is a deliberate strategy to dominate Nigeria’s agricultural sector and control the nation’s food supply chain. This is nothing short of economic terrorism.”he wrote.
Dr. Njemanze urged the National Assembly to act decisively.
“We respectfully urge the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security to take immediate steps to address this threat and safeguard Nigeria’s natural agricultural practices,” he stated.
He warned of the global implications of these actions.
“If unchecked, this could become a blueprint for exploiting other developing nations. Nigeria must resist this invasion and reclaim its food security.” he added.
The GPA also called for legislative oversight and protective measures.
“The GPA Secretariat urges you to investigate these claims and take decisive action to protect the health and economic stability of Nigerians. The survival of our nation depends on safeguarding our sovereignty and food security,” Dr. Njemanze concluded in his letter.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, Hon. Chike Okafor, disclosed in a statement that the opening ceremony of the summit will hold at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the National Assembly Library on July 8 at 2:00 p.m.
The statement added that day two and three of the summit, on July 9 and 10, will take place at Conference Room 028, former Temporary Chamber, House of Representatives Wing, National Assembly, at 9:00 a.m. daily.
According to the statement, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, will serve as chief host, while Vice President Kashim Shettima is the Special Guest of Honour. Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, will also grace the summit as Guest of Honour.
The theme of the summit is “Curbing Malnutrition and Food Insecurity Through Effective Synergies.”
Hon. Okafor, a three-time lawmaker, represents Okigwe South Federal Constituency of Imo State at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
