The Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, on Thursday held its maiden Career Services Programme aimed at equipping students with the right skills for employability, job sustainability, and self-employment.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Career Services, Mr. J.K. Ugbuta, said the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the world of work, stressing that the programme would empower students with mentorship, resources, and practical guidance to thrive beyond graduation.

Dear Students,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this Maiden Career Services Programme. Today marks the beginning of a journey where we, as a community, take deliberate steps to prepare our students not just for academic success, but for professional excellence, sustainable careers, and entrepreneurial achievements.
The tradition from classroom learning to the world of work is often challenging. Many graduates are highly knowledgeable, yet face difficulties in securing employment, sustaining jobs, or venturing into self-employment. This is why career services exist – to bridge the gap, to provide guidance, resources, and mentorship that empower students to thrive beyond graduation.
Our theme today – “Career Services: Empowering Students for Success”; that is, empowering students for successful employment, job search, job sustainability, and self-employment – captures the essence of what this workshop is all about.
On Employability, we must develop not only technical knowledge, but also soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. Employers seek graduates who are ready to contribute from day one.
On Job Search, career services will provide strategies for CV writing, interview preparation, networking, and leveraging technology in the job market. Knowing how to present a job is only yourself is as important as having the qualifications.
On Job Sustainability, getting a job is only the first step; keeping it requires discipline, continuous learning, resilience, and professionalism. Our students must understand the value of ethics, performance, and personal growth.
On Self-Employment, not all paths lead to paid jobs. Some of you will become job creators rather than job seekers. Career services will expose you to entrepreneurial thinking, innovation, and resources to start and sustain your own ventures.
Dear students, your future is in your hands. This workshop is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take charge of your careers. I urge you to participate actively, ask questions, and take advantage of the opportunities that career services provide.
Together, let us build a generation of graduates who are not only employable, but also capable of sustaining their careers and creating jobs for others.
