The Imo State Police Command says it will begin full enforcement of the ban on unauthorised use of vehicles with tinted windscreens from Friday, October 4, 2025.
The Command said vehicle owners whose cars are factory-fitted with tinted or lightly shaded windscreens must apply for the mandatory permit through the approved police portal, https://possap.gov.ng, before the expiration of the grace period on October 3.
Henry Okoye, spokesperson of the Command, said in a statement on Friday that the enforcement was in line with national security directives. He warned that vehicles belonging to violators would be impounded and dealt with in accordance with the law.
Okoye stressed that the ban on tinted windscreens for commercial buses, particularly the “Bus Imo” fleet, remains in place. According to him, the measure became necessary as such vehicles have frequently been linked to violent crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery and “one chance” incidents.
“For the avoidance of doubt, vehicles of violators will be impounded and dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
The Police Command explained that permits would only be issued for vehicles with factory-fitted windscreens or those with light shading backed by a medical report or recommendation from an approved government hospital.
Okoye urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers during the exercise, assuring that the move was aimed at strengthening public safety across the state.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Imolites and residents of the state,” Okoye said.
He appealed to the public to support the exercise, stressing that compliance with the directives would help reduce crime and protect citizens from avoidable dangers on the road.
