Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has warned that anyone planning to rig the 2027 governorship election in the state should first prepare their will.
He declared that the will of God and the mandate of the people will determine who becomes governor, not manipulation or political intimidation.
Otti gave the warning at the Government House, Umuahia, on Thursday, during the October edition of Alex Otti Speaks to Abians.
Reacting to a question on the recent statement credited to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who boasted that the APC would take over Abia in 2027, Otti said he was unbothered but cautioned against any attempt to subvert the people’s will.
“I have heard that some people around him say oh, they must take over this State, they must write results but the only advice I have for them is that if they truly want to write results, they should write something else before that time. You know what it is? Their will,” Otti said.
The Governor, who described Kalu as his friend and younger brother, stated that he had forgiven him for his recent criticisms but advised that the peace and calm currently enjoyed in Abia must not be jeopardized by reckless political statements.
He stressed that every politician has the right to contest, provided they play by the rules and respect the democratic process.
Otti used the occasion to reaffirm his loyalty to the Labour Party, dispelling rumours of his defection to the APC. He reiterated that his administration remains focused on good governance, transparency, and development — values he said will continue to guide his leadership as 2027 approaches.
