Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi has dismissed concerns over the on-field altercation between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, insisting it was driven by the Super Eagles’ strong competitive spirit rather than any internal rift.
Speaking to journalists after Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 win over Mozambique in their second-round match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the Besiktas midfielder said the incident was a product of players demanding more from themselves during the game.
“He wanted more, and it was not coming at that moment,” Ndidi said. “Others may see it another way, but for us, it showed the level of competitiveness in the team.”
Ndidi further explained that Osimhen later excused himself from the rest of the squad after the final whistle and went straight to the team bus.
According to him, the Galatasaray striker was experiencing stomach pain, stressing that there was no bad blood between the players following the brief altercation.
Nigeria’s commanding victory over the Mambas reinforced their title credentials, with Ndidi maintaining that the incident only underlined the hunger and high standards within the Super Eagles camp.
