Enugu State Governor, Mr. Peter Mbah, may be regretting decamping to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following feelers that Enugu people may reject the party in next year’s election.
His disaffection heightened over the weekend as some Enugu stakeholders met with him to express their frustration over the hardship the ordinary people in Enugu State are facing. They were said to be worried that since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over in 2023, life has become very hard for the ordinary man.
They also told him that Igbo marginalisation has worsened, with Tinubu concentrating development projects between the North and South-West, while Igboland, especially Enugu, has been left behind.
Sources close to the Enugu State Government House revealed that Mbah is becoming highly frustrated by the day, as he sees the current discontent as a warning signal that even his own re-election might hang in the balance.
He was said to have confided in the stakeholders that the prospect of Mr. Peter Obi’s emergence as the presidential flag bearer of the NDC may result in a repeat of the 2023 scenario, where he struggled to win his seat.
“You know the Obi wave in 2023 affected Mbah seriously. He won through manipulation as Labour had the upper hand, sweeping some key legislative seats. He doesn’t want a repeat of that harrowing experience,” the source revealed.
It was also gathered that Mbah is contemplating working against the APC and Tinubu to save his seat, meaning that he may negotiate with the Obi group.
According to multiple sources, Mbah regrets joining the APC because of some unmet expectations. The matter has been compounded by his arch-rival, Nnaji, rejoining the PDP.
Attempts to reach his media handlers for confirmation of the speculation were unsuccessful, as they did not answer their calls.
