The Imo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has concluded its National Assembly and House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party officials describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible.
The primaries, conducted across the state’s 305 wards on Thursday, produced candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives seats, as the opposition party intensified efforts to position itself as a viable contender in Imo politics ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Party leaders and delegates who monitored the exercise commended the conduct of the polls, saying the process was orderly and largely free of disputes that often trail party primaries in the country. The ADC said the exercise complied with its constitution and electoral guidelines.
For the Senate, the party nominated Vincent O. N. Iwuchukwu for Imo West, Ofoegbu Uchenna Daniel for Imo East, and Nkiruka Imma Ibekwe for Imo North Senatorial District. The party also unveiled candidates for the House of Representatives across the state’s federal constituencies.
Among those nominated for the House of Representatives are Amadi Samuel Okechukwu for Owerri Municipal/Owerri North/Owerri West Federal Constituency; Ogbonna Chukwudi Joseph for Ihitte Uboma/Ehime Mbano/Obowo; Iheanyichukwu Emmanuel Egejurum for Onuimo/Isiala Mbano/Okigwe; and Mbaoma Ikechukwu Callistus for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency.
Others are Okoro Rex Chikwesiri for Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Mbaise; Anselm Nwoko Ikwu for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala; Peters Uchenna Richard for Ohaji Egbema/Oguta/Oru West; Bismarck Chike Iheomazuroke Akanno for Nkwerre/Isu/Njaba/Nwangele; and Kingsley Nnamdi Okwarabizie for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency.
The party attributed the smooth conduct of the primaries to the leadership of the state chairman, Prof. James Okoroma, noting that the exercise reflected the ADC’s growing organisational structure and preparations for the 2027 elections. The party urged members, youths, women groups and supporters across the state to unite behind its candidates as political activities ahead of the polls gather momentum.
