Former federal lawmaker, Tony Nwulu, has distanced himself from claims linking him to a press conference by Rev. Uche Nwole and a petition challenging a non-existent Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) “primaries” in Imo State, insisting he was neither part of the media briefing addressed by Nwole nor involved in any campaign of calumny against Chief Martin Agbaso.
Mr. Nwulu clarified that he has no personal grievance against Chief Martin Agbaso, the leader of the NDC in Imo State, stressing that his concern was solely that the process failed to comply with provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s guidelines. He also stated that he does not believe Agbaso played any role in the selection process and has never accused him of influencing the outcome.
According to him, he never consented to nor endorsed the adoption of any consensus candidate, maintaining that his position remains rooted in due process, internal democracy and adherence to the law. He reiterated that his objection is strictly to what he described as procedural violations in the emergence of the Imo East Senatorial candidate and not against any individual within the party.
