English Premier League side Brentford FC have officially promoted Nigerian defender Benjamin Fredrick to their first-team squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, marking a significant step in the youngster’s career.
Fredrick, who was named the Players’ Player of the Year for Brentford’s B Team last season, had joined Belgian club FC Dender on loan. However, the move was cut short in November after he suffered a meniscus injury that sidelined him for several months.
Having returned to full fitness, the Nigerian international is now set to join Brentford’s senior squad for pre-season preparations. Club officials have reportedly decided against sending him out on loan again, with the coaching staff viewing him as part of their plans for the new campaign.
New Brentford manager Keith Andrews is understood to have endorsed Fredrick’s integration into the first team. The defender, who has started each of his first eight competitive appearances for Nigeria, is currently in the country training with Simoiben Football Academy as he prepares for the start of the Premier League season.
