– *IT IS THE TURN OF OWERRI MUNICIPAL

As the 2027 election draws closer, the future of Owerri Federal Constituency has continued to be on everybody’s lips, as it relates to equity, fairness and justice.

Yes, equity, fairness and justice, because Owerri Federal Constituency is made up three Local Government Areas, namely ; Owerri Municipal, Owerri-North and Owerri-West. Since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1999, Owerri Federal Constituency has been represented at the Green Chambers of the House Of Representative by citizens from the three local government areas that make up the constituency, as follows :

  1. Hon Chief Sir Levi Oguike, 1999-2003 (Owerri-west).
  2. Hon Barrister Uche Onyeagucha, 2003-2007(Owerri-west).
  3. Rt Honourable Barrister Ernest Ibejiakor, 2007-2011(Owerri Municipal).
  4. Hon Ezenwa Onyewuchi, 2011-2019(Owerri-North).
  5. Hon Engr Ikenna Elezieanya, 2019-2023 (Owerri-west).
  6. Hon Sir Tochukwu Toska Okere, 2023-2027(Owerri-North).

Clearly, one can deduce from the above that both Owerri-North and Owerri-west have occupied the House Of Representatives seat for twelve years (12yrs) each, leaving Owerri Municipal with just four years (4 yrs). The resultant effect of this lopsided representation has forced leaders, stakeholders, elders and youths in the Owerri Federal Constituency to ask this simple question : Where then is the justice, fairness and equity?

This question is coming at a time everyone is praying and demanding for Owerri zone to produce the next Governor of Imo State, based on equity, fairness and justice. It is therefore a given that Owerri Federal Constituency should practice same justice, fairness and equity for Owerri Municipal and allow it to produce the next House Of Representative Member in 2027.

Unfortunately, some of the political parties that have, so far, fielded candidates for the Owerri Federal Constituency Seat election, come 2027, threw equity, fairness and justice into the dustbin and embraced mediocrity, injustice, unfairness and inequity. One had expected them to field qualified and experienced candidates from Owerri Municipal to correct this glaring imbalance, but they chose to play to the gallery. The following examples will suffice :

  1. APP has Ikechukwu Amadi as candidate (Owerri-west).
  2. APC has Tochukwu Okere Toska as candidate (Owerri-North).
  3. APGA has Anthony Ewelike as candidate (Owerri-west).
  4. Labour Party has Betty Akeredolu as candidate (Owerri-west).
  5. ADC has Amadi Samuel Okechukwu as candidate (Owerri-North).
  6. NDC has Agoh Charles Asika Akataka as candidate (Owerri-North).
  7. PDP has Ndidi Iheme as candidate (Owerri-North).

From the above seven (7) political parties, three (3) of them fielded candidates from Owerri-west, while four (4) of them fielded candidates from Owerri-North. None of them considered aspirants from Owerri Municipal. It therefore appears there is a deliberate conspiracy to continue to deny Owerri Municipal the opportunity to represent Owerri Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, despite the fact that Owerri Municipal always presents highly qualified persons as aspirants for the position. This political attitude will continue to breed instability, as it would make nonsense for the agitation of Imo Governor of Owerri Zone extraction come 2027/2028, no matter the party platform.

The question now is : How do we solve this puzzle? Or better put : What path best guarantees Equity, Fairness, Justice and political stability in Owerri Federal Constituency? When viewed from the module of progressive thoughts, it simply means that come 2027, the next House of Representative Member Representing Owerri Federal Constituency must come from Owerri Municipal. You cannot speak of equity, without acknowledging injustice and imbalance against the Owerri Municipal.

This is where the choice of Citizen Akirika Okoro comes in, and he is the current conversation on the lips of everyone (leaders, stakeholders, elders and youths) in Owerri Federal Constituency. Yes, Citizen Akirika Okoro Bu Okwu Akpu N’ Onu N’Owerri Federal Constituency.

An international businessman, philanthropist and silent political operator, Citizen Akirika Okoro is from Amawon Village of Owerri Nchi-ise, Owerri Municipal. He first declared his ambition for the Federal House Of Representative Seat under Labour Party, but when he noticed the witchcraft politicking in the party, which was rightly described as Betrayal Of Hope, Betrayal Of Equity, Betrayal Of Fairness, and Betrayal Of Justice, he resigned, alerted the public, and immediately aligned with a refined progressive party, emerging as its candidate for the Owerri Federal Constituency Seat election. Yes, Citizen Akirika Okoro will be on the ballot in 2027, and this is where this narrative becomes more interesting.

Apart from being intellectually prepared for the battle ahead, with an intimidating war-chest, the popular philanthropist has assembled highly knowledgeable experts on legislative matters, to join him to actualize his vision for the Owerri Federal Constituency. His blueprint has already been made public and can be assessed even on the internet.

Citizen Akirika Okoro is the only House Of Representative Candidate for Owerri Federal Constituency that comes from Owerri Municipal, a local government area that has been crying for equity, fairness, justice and political balance. Unlike other candidates whose aspiration is only on mere ambition, Citizen Akirika Okoro is the only candidate who is bringing something rare. He is perhaps the only candidate, though not of the Ruling Party, that has been honoured by the Imo State Government for his commendable contributions to the education sector, through the free distribution of over 100,000 Exercise Books to students, and hundreds of Cartons of Chalks And Markers to teachers in Public Primary And Secondary Schools across Owerri Federal Constituency and beyond. For several years, this Owerri Nchi-ise born humble philanthropist has remained behind the curtain, quietly carrying out programmes and initiatives that have continued to drive societal upliftment. These included Youth and Women empowerment, assisting Churches, Town Unions, etc, in their various projects. His numerous business concerns have given employment opportunities to many.

His ambition is, therefore, borne of his sincere passion to serve humanity through productive legislative engagement.

As election for the Owerri Federal Constituency Seat approaches, we should only consider the conversation on the lips of everyone, which is : it is the turn of Owerri Municipal.

Citizen Akirika Okoro is not just the candidate of his political party, which will be unveiled in the next few days, he is the coalition candidate because it is the turn of Owerri Municipal.
