…Ikenga Imo, Amara Iwuanyanwu Emerge Best Performing Legislators
The Orlu Youth Assembly (OYA) has officially unveiled, adopted and publicly released the report of findings by the Legislative Performance Assessment Committee on the Performance of elected legislators representing Orlu Senatorial Zone between 2023-2026 Legislative Session.
The report was released to the public on Sunday at the National Secretariat of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly in Orlu LGA of Imo State during a World Press Conference.
Unveiling the report, the National President of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, Prince Izunna Obiefule, disclosed that the feat was indeed an affirmation by the people that they have a right to know how those they entrusted with public office have performed.
Obiefule who added that the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly believes that the people are custodians of democratic values, who are equally promoters of good leadership and accountability, reflected that societies who prosper are those who have the courage to ask difficult questions, celebrate excellence, identify shortcomings, as well as encourage continuous improvement.
He said Orluzurumee Youth Assembly seeks such a democratic culture to be nurtured in Orlu Senatorial Zone.
Reiterating that the report was prepared without fear or favor, political prejudice and without personal malice, Obiefule stressed that the findings reflect the voices of the people of Orlu Zone and collective aspiration for better governance.
“History will remember this day, not because scores were announced, but because the people of Orlu Zone collectively declared that public office is a sacred trust and that accountability remains the foundation of democratic leadership.
“Today, we are pleased to formerly announce to you that the National Executive Council of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly has carefully received, reviewed and unanimously adopted the report of the Legislative Performance Assessment Committee as the official position of our organization.
“The adoption of this report is not intended to ridicule, embarrass or persecute any individual. Neither is it a declaration of political support or opposition to any political party or office holder.
“Rather, it represents a sincere civic effort to strengthen democratic accountability and encourage excellence in public service.
“We recognize that legislative performance cannot be measured solely by the number of bills sponsored or motions moved, but also requires accountability, regular engagement with constituents, transparency, responsiveness to community needs, youth empowerment, oversight functions, the visible impact of public service on the lives of the people”, Obiefule emphasized.
According to the report, the best performing Member of Imo State House of Assembly is Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Member who represents Nwangele State Constituency, while the worst performing Member of Imo State House Assembly is Hon. Udeze Earnest Okechukwu, representing Ideato North State Constituency.
“The best performing Member of House of Representatives is Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, Member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency.
“The worst performing Member of House of Representatives is Hon. Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu, Member representing Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency”, Obiefule noted.
He affirmed that these ratings are neither a verdict on the worth of individual nor an endorsement of any political interest, but a reflection of the evidence gathered during the assessment and the views expressed by constituents in the 12 Local Government Areas of Orlu Zone.
Noting that the OYA’s vision is an Orlu Zone where legislators regularly engage their constituents, communicate their legislative activities, attract development projects, empower people especially youth and women, uphold transparency, provide effective oversight in the public interest, Obiefule described the report as a milestone.
He hinted that the report had established a benchmark and the beginning of an enduring tradition of civic accountability which he said would often encourage excellence in public service, deepening democratic governance in Orlu Senatorial District.
Commending the Committee for a job well done, the OYA National President thanked the youth of Orlu Zone for being present at the unveiling ceremony, just as he deeply hailed Orluzurumee Worldwide and the BOT of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly for believing in the cause of Orlu Zone and their unflinching support thus far.
