Prince (Dr.) Alex Mbata, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate for Imo East (Owerri Zone), has felicitated the people of Owerri Nchi Ise on the 2026 Oru Owerre Festival, while women in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area declared their support for his senatorial bid during a grassroots town hall meeting.

In his goodwill message to mark the annual cultural festival, Mbata congratulated the people of Owerri Nchi Ise, revered traditional rulers, Nde Oha, the Owerri Communities Assembly (OCA), age grades, women, youths and all sons and daughters of Owerri on the celebration of Oru Owerre 2026.

He described Oru Owerre as a cherished festival that symbolises thanksgiving, unity, cultural pride and the enduring heritage of the Owerri people, urging residents to use the occasion to deepen the bonds of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.

Mbata said the celebration of the new yam and a fruitful harvest should inspire renewed commitment to the progress, prosperity and development of Owerri Nchi Ise. He prayed that the festival would usher in abundant blessings, good health and greater opportunities for every family, while wishing the people a peaceful, colourful and memorable celebration.

Meanwhile, the Mbata Women Alliance (MWA) continued its grassroots town hall engagements across Owerri Zone with a meeting held at the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Council Headquarters, where participants reaffirmed their support for the APC and Prince Alex Mbata.

The event, coordinated by the Convener of the Mbata Women Alliance, Hon. Chief Chika Ibekwe, drew women from across Ahiazu Mbaise who pledged to mobilise support for the party and Mbata’s senatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Among dignitaries at the meeting were the Executive Chairman of Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, Hon. Amb. Larry O. Chikwe, his Deputy, Hon. Maureen Osuagwu, APC leaders, stakeholders, women leaders and supporters.

The women expressed their support through solidarity songs and pledged to sustain grassroots mobilisation across communities in Ahiazu Mbaise, describing the meeting as another step towards strengthening the party’s structure in the area.

Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Chief Chika Ibekwe commended the women for their growing participation in the movement, saying their commitment reflected increasing confidence in Prince Alex Mbata’s leadership and vision for Owerri Zone.

The Ahiazu Mbaise meeting is part of the Mbata Women Alliance’s ongoing town hall tour across the nine local government areas of Owerri Zone, a campaign designed to deepen engagement with women, promote unity within the APC and consolidate grassroots support for Prince Alex Mbata ahead of the 2027 elections.
