A female pressure group, Women for Women Initiative, has condemned in strong terms what it described as an unwarranted and unprovoked attack on a senior police officer serving in Abia State.
It warned that it would be forced to take legal action or embark on protests to ensure that such harassment and intimidation do not continue by those “who want to compromise the law and pervert the cause of justice.”
Reacting to a Facebook post by one Ochiegbu Marvelous, which was copied to the Police Service Commission and the new Commissioner of Police, the group frowned at the choice of words used by the petitioner, which tended to paint the female senior police officer in a bad light.
In a statement issued in Umuahia on Wednesday by the group and signed by its publicity secretary, Mrs. Ruth Kanu, it described Ochiegbu as an interloper who is pursuing a personal agenda of vendetta.
“Anyone unfortunate to read the trash Ochiegbu wrote would know that the venom he vomited was borne out of acidic hatred and unfulfilled expectations against an innocent police officer who decided to be professional in the execution of her job.”
The group noted that Ochiegbu must be one of those people who wanted to compromise the female police officer while she was serving at Zone 9, Umuahia, but got disappointed with her strict conduct.
It also expressed worries that even after a series of petitions against her, for which she was exonerated by the police high command, enemies of the same officer were still after her.
According to the statement, “Ochiegbu and her cohorts wrote petitions against the same innocent person. They were even more embittered when she was promoted, yet they were still after her. That means they have ulterior motives.”
The group condemned the resort to name-dropping by Ochiegbu, who unnecessarily tried to use the name of Gov. Alex Otti in vain, saying that such emotional blackmail would not work.
While pledging their support for the female officer, the group maintained that it would never condone any act of unprofessional conduct by any officer, male or female.
It accused Ochiegbu of defamation against the senior police officer, since the police high command had never found her wanting in the exercise of her duties.
“Despite the tons of petitions and media attacks against this same officer, she was still promoted. That means her bosses are satisfied with her moral standards and professional conduct. People like Ochiegbu should please let her be, lest we react,” the group concluded.
