Imo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Austin Onyedebelu has described Chief Chuks Ajaelu as a “political bulldozer” following his recent defection to the ruling party after more than two decades in the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ajaelu joined the APC last week after spending over 20 years in the PDP, where he rose through the ranks and served as the party’s zonal chairman for Okigwe Zone. His movement to the APC adds another experienced political operator to the ruling party’s fold as it consolidates its structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting to the development in a statement, Onyedebelu said Ajaelu’s political experience, influence and grassroots connections were well established, describing his entry into the APC as a significant development for the party in Imo State.
“I have always known Chief Chuks Ajaelu as a political bulldozer whose capacity, influence and ability to mobilise and deliver are beyond question,” the party boss said.
The APC chairman said Ajaelu’s political strength and long-standing connections at the grassroots would contribute to the party’s efforts to strengthen its structures across the state. He also commended the former PDP chieftain for taking what he described as a bold decision after consultations with his family, political associates and other stakeholders.
He said Ajaelu’s decision to identify with the APC demonstrated his confidence in the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma. He described the governor as a “pragmatic and visionary” leader and cited infrastructure, economic development, security, health, education and human capital development among areas where he said the administration had made progress.
“The giant strides of Governor Hope Uzodimma in infrastructure, economic development, security, health, education and human capital development have continued to make the APC the party to be and the natural home for every well-meaning Imo citizen who desires progress and sustainable development,” he said.
Welcoming Ajaelu on behalf of the party’s state working committee and members, Onyedebelu assured him that the APC remained “a broad and inclusive family.” He said he looked forward to working with the new member to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and support Uzodimma’s administration as the APC prepares for the 2027 elections.
“Together, we shall build a stronger APC and deliver even greater victories for our party and the people of Imo State as we march confidently towards 2027,” Onyedebelu said.
