The former All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) bloc in the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari as director-general of his 2027 presidential campaign council, describing the move as a positive response to its demands for greater inclusion in the administration.
In a communiqué signed by Prof. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, National Co-ordinator, Association of Former ANPP Members in APC, the group also praised Tinubu for appointing Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni as deputy director for the North in the campaign council and retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima, who belongs to the former ANPP bloc, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election. The former ANPP members said the developments showed that Tinubu was listening to their concerns and described him as a “listening father of the nation.”
The communiqué followed a meeting of former ANPP members in APC held at Westpoint Hotel, Abuja, on Monday. The group recalled that at its November 3, 2025 meeting, it had appealed to President Tinubu to give its members greater opportunities to serve in government through appointments as board chairmen, ambassadors, ministers and heads of government agencies and departments.
Beyond the 2027 election, however, the former ANPP bloc renewed its demand for a greater share of political power, insisting that the vice-presidential slot should remain with the bloc. It also argued that the presidency should be handed over to the ANPP bloc in 2031, saying fairness and equity demanded that it succeed Tinubu when his tenure expires.
The group pledged its “maximum support” for Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 elections while appealing to the president to support a presidential candidate from the former ANPP bloc in 2031.
