The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Aboh-Mbaise State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Barr. Ifeanyichukwu Francis Okereafor, has promised to provide effective representation and a strong voice for the people if elected in 2027.
Addressing newsmen at his country home in Oboama Enyiogugu over the weekend, Okereafor, a lawyer and philanthropist, said his experience as a legislative draftsman at the National Assembly, coupled with his extensive consultancy experience in both the public and private sectors, had equipped him with the necessary skills to effectively represent the constituency.
“Aboh-Mbaise needs a breath of fresh air — something new, something different and something our people will look forward to,” he said.
“My concern is in the future of Aboh-Mbaise. The current high level of youth unemployment and dilapidated infrastructure, such as schools, roads and health facilities, cannot be our future. We want a brighter future; we want an Aboh-Mbaise that looks better,” Okereafor added.
He also unveiled a six-point agenda anchored on Education; Market and Enterprises Development; Accountability and Engagement; Community Leadership and Engagement; and Infrastructure Audit and Advocacy, which he said would guide his legislative priorities if elected.
According to him, “Aboh-Mbaise possesses a high level of literacy, but because the schools are dilapidated, a lot of our children feel that education is not worth it. I will hold regular engagements with school authorities. I will, in collaboration with the government and relevant authorities, give a facelift to our markets, encourage people and ensure credit facilities are available to them.”
The ADC candidate promised to remain accountable to his constituents through regular constituency briefings and community leadership engagements. He also pledged to attract individuals and organisations willing to support development programmes in the constituency, irrespective of political affiliations.
He further stressed that Aboh-Mbaise has a zoning arrangement favouring Enyiogugu Ward and urged the people of the constituency to uphold what he described as the “bond of equity.”
Okereafor has previously served as the director of a non-governmental organisation with more than 300 employees, which empowers people engaged in agriculture and has also supported security initiatives in his community.
