The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed October 9, 2026, for the commencement of nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the date on Monday in Kaduna during the commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with staff and a readiness assessment for the 2027 elections.
Amupitan said the latest voter registration exercise produced more than 10.7 million new registrations nationwide, stressing that the commission was taking measures to ensure eligible voters receive their PVCs before the elections.
The INEC chairman urged officials to eliminate bottlenecks associated with PVC distribution at the local government level, warning that administrative difficulties could prevent eligible citizens from exercising their right to vote.
He also said the commission was upgrading its technological systems for voter verification and election result transmission. According to him, INEC is refining its Result Management Systems, including the recently introduced eEC8A platform.
Amupitan further said the commission was adopting a “Zero-Failure” approach to election logistics, covering the early deployment of sensitive and non-sensitive materials, movement of personnel and materials, security coordination and the training of ad-hoc election personnel.
