Heavy downpour has led to flood in some parts of Owerri, Imo State on Monday.
The rainfall which lasted for about two hours caused traffic gridlock as motorists tried to navigate their way. Our reporters who sent in reports from various parts of the town said some streets inside the heart of old Oweri city were blocked as flood blocked drainage and waterways.
Motorists avoided major roads such as Wethedral road to avoid the excruciating traffic hold up. Several persons sent in pictures to show the depth of the flood and the havoc it wrecked in some areas.
The issue of flood has become a nagging problem in Owerri metropolis especially since the state government began huge construction works across the city.
Along the busy Christ Church Road, motorists had a hectic time crossing the flood. Passengers were seen taking risky and desperate measures to walk across the flood.
The case was the same in some areas where no flood was witnessed as reported by some facebook users who monitored the downpour.
A facebook user and a social media agent of the Imo State government, Onwusoanya FCC Jones, posted pictures on face- book saying there was no flood at Okigwe road roundabout ,Part of Douglas road,Government House road, Amakohia-Akwakuma road,Warehouse junction.
