… As correspondents’ chapel marks end of the year party

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State has said that things would not get better in Nigeria unless the citizens especially journalists get involved in governance.
Ihedioha, represented by his Chief Secretary, Chibuike Onyeukwu stated this at the end of the party of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Chapter, held yesterday in Owerri.
The governor reiterated that the core responsibilities of journalists include holding the government accountable in its policies and programmes.
He added that, “journalism can only be effective when it becomes a mirror through which people can easily assess and judge the government and their leaders.”
He also reassured his commitment to offer transparent and accountable government that upholds rule of law and is sensitive to the plights and needs of the citizens.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Technology Development, Nze Meekam Mgbenwelu disclosed the plan to train journalists in the state on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and eqiup them with other enabling technology skills.
He highlighted some of the activities and efforts of the government aimed at making the state technology driven as well as provide massive job opportunities in technology fields for the citizens.
In his remark, the Chairman of the chapel, Steve Uzoechi said they would not relent in living up to their responsibilities to the society as agents of positive change and social justice.
