Some members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have taken a move to persuade a former governor of Borno State, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff back into the party.
Sheriff who was one of the founding fathers of the APC had left to become the National Chairman of the PDP.
But the group, it was gathered wants Sheriff back to the fold of the APC, a party he helped to built and nurture.
According to the leader of the group, Dr. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, “There is no doubt in our minds that Sen. Sheriff was a funding father of the APC. Before the consummating of the APC merger, Sen Sheriff was the greatest sponsor of the defunct ANPP and chairman of the Board of Trustees.”
“As Chairman of the ANPP Board of Trustees, his roles in the actualization of the merger to form the APC cannot be over emphasized. Sen Sheriff’s committed towards the effective take off of the APC coupled with his track records in party building, the entire APC were miffed and completely demoralized when Sen Sheriff left the APC due to what happened at the APC National Convention in 2014,” Dr Orikeze V.A said.
They said even when Sen Sheriff’s exit from the APC was based on principles, the PDP folks took advantage of the situation having realized his potentials and expertise.
“They begged Sen Sheriff to go and rescue their tattered umbrella from further damage.
Party building and development world over, is about pragmatism, doggedness and discipline, which are all embedded in Sen Sheriff. He has over the years committed so much towards the building and development of the APC in Nigeria. Consequent on these, we will not allow Sen Sheriff to stagnate one day longer without making this noble recall to service,” the group added.
“In realization of the benevolence and selfless disposition inherent in Sen Ali Sheriff, his doggedness in party building, discipline and sense of responsibility that, not only his defunct constituent members both in and outside the APC recognizes fully the fatherly role of Sen Sheriff predating this dispensation; we wish to make this Clarion Call on the Leader, His Excellency Sen (Dr.) Ali Modu Sheriff to come back home to continually help in making our great Party, APC to be more stronger, vibrant, focused and objective driven.”
“His coming back to the APC will not only help in strengthening the APC but will greatly galvanize momentous support for project Buhari in running his administration and his reelection come 2019. With Sen Sheriff in the APC, President Buhari can be assured of victory any day. Come back home, come back to the house which you are a part of its conception and building,” the group added.
