The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims of a purported Rainbow Coalition in the state, insisting that the party remains committed to its proposed Broom Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, PhD, the party also cautioned former Governor Rochas Okorocha against making statements capable of undermining President Bola Tinubu, Governor Hope Uzodimma and the APC.

The party faulted recent public comments attributed to Okorocha, accusing him of misrepresenting its leadership, questioning the legitimacy of the APC’s electoral victories in Imo in 2019 and 2023, and casting aspersions on the judiciary. It reaffirmed its confidence in Uzodimma’s six-year administration, citing infrastructural development, public service reforms, security initiatives and transparency in governance as notable achievements of the Shared Prosperity administration.

On the controversy surrounding the Imo West Senatorial ticket, the APC described the Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu in Abuja as erroneous, disclosing that its lawyers had commenced steps to appeal the decision and seek a stay of execution. The party maintained that Uzodimma remains its authentic senatorial candidate, having secured the highest number of votes in the party’s senatorial primary, while rejecting suggestions that President Tinubu influenced the court’s decision.

Reiterating its position that there is no Rainbow Coalition in Imo but a Broom Coalition, the APC claimed that several opposition candidates, including those from the PDP, APP, ADC, NDC and APGA, had indicated interest in abandoning their party tickets to align with it. It consequently questioned Okorocha’s loyalty to the APC, urging him to support the party’s leadership and electoral aspirations or reconsider his membership, while calling on party faithful and Imolites to disregard what it described as attempts to rewrite the state’s political history.Editorial note: The report presents the APC’s positions and allegations as claims attributed to the party rather than independently established facts.
