Ahead of the November 11, 2023, Imo governorship election, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has emerged as the winner of an opinion poll conducted by the Owerri Peoples Front, OPF.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri on Friday, the convener of the group, Hon. Ebere Chukwuemeka, said Senator Anyanwu emerged as the winner of the opinion poll conducted for governorship candidates from Owerri zone.
“Following several days of voting, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, emerged as the winner of the opinion poll, securing an impressive number of votes.
“Soon, the results of the opinion poll, showing how voting took place, would be advertised in some local newspapers and online platforms.
“This outcome unequivocally signifies that Senator Anyanwu is the most widely accepted gubernatorial candidate, not just within the Owerri zone but across the entirety of Imo State.” Chukwuemeka declared.
Chukwuemeka noted “that it firmly believes that the opinion poll results accurately reflect the aspirations of the people of Imo State who yearn for balance, equity, and justice in the rotation of the governorship of the state.”
He called on the people of Owerri Zone to unite and rally behind Senator Anyanwu as the consensus candidate from Owerri Zone for the November 11 gubernatorial election, stating that “he requires all forms of support—spiritual and financial.”
He appealed to “our brothers and sisters in Orlu and Okigwe zones, urging them to wholeheartedly support Senator Anyanwu’s candidacy for the governorship of Imo State.”
“Furthermore, we encourage Senator Anyanwu to reach out to other gubernatorial candidates from Owerri Zone across various political parties. It’s paramount that they are engaged constructively to ensure a resounding victory for Owerri Zone in the upcoming governorship election,” the OPF leader stated.
He also emphasized the importance of Owerri Zone to produce the next governor of Imo State and appealed to “our brothers and sisters in Orlu and Okigwe Zones to honor and resurrect the Original Charter of Equity.”
“It’s worth remembering that OPF has long kicked against Orlu Zone holding the governorship for 20 years, while Okigwe had it for four years and Owerri only got seven months.
“If we genuinely wish to uphold fairness and justice in Imo State, it’s imperative to apply a fair rotation of the governorship of the state.
“In all states in the South East, it is only in Imo that there is no fair rotation of the governorship,” he stated.
Ebere gave a breakdown of how other states in the South East have strictly adhered to zoning or rotation of the governorship.
