OWERRI, Imo State — The Civil Resource Development and Documentation Centre (CIRDDOC Nigeria), in collaboration with Community and Youth Development Initiatives (CYDI) and Justice Rights Initiatives (JRI), with support from the Ford Foundation, has trained 30 women from conflict-affected communities in Imo and Benue States on livelihood development, financial management, women’s rights and leadership.

The two-day Leadership and Economic Empowerment training was aimed at equipping women survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) and conflict with relevant knowledge and skills to improve their livelihoods, strengthen their economic independence and enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Speaking to newsmen at the event, CIRDDOC Nigeria Programme Manager, Mr Paschal Anozie, urged the Imo and Benue State Programme Officers to ensure proper follow-up with the beneficiaries to promote the effective application of the knowledge and skills acquired during the training.

The Imo State Programme Officer, Felxfame Enisire, and the Benue State Programme Officer, Alfred Gbagir, are expected to support the follow-up process to strengthen the impact of the intervention among the women beneficiaries.

The training forms part of efforts to empower women affected by gender-based violence and conflict by improving their capacity to become economically self-reliant, understand their rights and take active roles in leadership and community development.
