Hon. Bernard Ekeh, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, has said the party is now suffering from hemorrhage.
He said the party would now nose dive with the exit of former Governor Emeka Ihedioha and his loyalists.
Last week, key stakeholders of the party loyal to Ihedioha left the party.
“With Ihedioha’s exit, the PDP in Imo State is now hemorrhaging”
“Soon, it will collapse because those who left the party are in the majority,” Ekeh stated.
He described Ihedioha as the soul of the PDP in Imo State, stating that his departure has left a hollow shell in the party.
“What is left in the party is its carcass,” he stated
He attributed the party’s downward spiral to its failure to implement internal reforms, which he noted were long overdue.
He described the 2023 Imo governorship election as the turning point for the PDP in the State when the party was decisively defeated by Hope Uzodimma and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ekeh said “PDP in Imo State was blown away by Hope Uzodimma and the APC in the last governorship election because we had a candidate that was so unpopular,”
“And besides, the party lacked cohesion and for the first time since 1999, the PDP in Imo State went into that contest like a divided army.”
Ekeh emphasized that the Rebuild Imo Organization, Ihedioha’s political structure, remains committed to deepening democracy in the state.
“There was no need for us to continue to stay in a party where there was erosion of those values and principles that were the foundation of the party when it was founded.”he said
