David Tochukwu Dozie, a politician and young entrepreneur from Owerri North, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking his entry with the collection of the party’s membership card in Egbu Ward, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
He was formerly of the Labour Party, LP.
Dozie, who hails from Umuofor, Egbu, is of the Dozie dynasty, an influential family, widely respected for its social and political standing in Egbu community and Imo State at large.
He made his declaration at a well-attended meeting with ward executives, party stakeholders and community leaders from across Egbu, an engagement party officials described as a deliberate and strategic political move.
The defining moment of the event was the formal presentation and collection of Dozie’s ADC membership card, a gesture that confirmed his full admission into the party and underscored his commitment to its values and organisational structure.
Speaking at the meeting, Dozie said he personally convened the gathering to interact directly with ward leaders, deepen grassroots relationships and officially conclude his registration into the party.
He explained that his decision to join the ADC was driven by his desire to contribute to the growth of the party, with a specific focus on building Egbu Ward into one of the strongest ADC wards in the country.
Dozie clarified that while he has not held any legislative office, he contested the Owerri North seat in the Imo State House of Assembly during the 2023 elections on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
According to him, his political journey has consistently been guided by credibility, grassroots mobilisation and a commitment to service-oriented leadership.
He also reaffirmed his support for the presidential ambition of Peter Obi, noting that his political beliefs remain rooted in reform, accountability and transparent governance.
Chairman of the ADC in Egbu Ward, Johnson Echebima, welcomed Dozie to the party, describing his entry as a significant boost to the ADC in Egbu, Owerri North and Imo State at large.
Echebima praised Dozie for pledging loyalty to the party and assured him of the full support of the ward leadership and members.
The ward youth leader, Hyacinth Abbah, said the ADC was firmly rooted in Egbu, assuring Dozie of the backing of the youths and describing his defection as a major gain for what he called a winning party.
Also speaking, the ward woman leader, Nneoma Cordelia Anyasodor, described Dozie’s entry as a blessing, saying it would strengthen women mobilisation and participation within the party.
Engr. B.S.K. Emetum commended Dozie for aligning with the ADC, declaring the party a winning platform and asserting that “a saviour has come for Owerri North.”
At the meeting, the ward chairman announced that Dozie had been admitted into the leadership structure of the ADC in Egbu Ward, in recognition of his status as a traditional leader and major stakeholder.
