Some Imo State citizens resident in the United Arab Emirates and some Asian countries who operate under the aegis of Association of Imo Citizens in the Gulf Region Friday held its Annual General meeting and Get Together party in Owerri.
The event was used to celebrate peace, love, unity, growth and for the safe return of their members from overseas.
Executive President of the Association,Mr, Chukumaijem Madu expressed delight and satisfaction for the success and achievements recorded by the association under his watch, stating that its members have the interest of the state at heart. Madu however disclosed that they collectively came together under one apolitical umbrella to tinker on ways of bringing their wealth and developmental experiences back to Imo State for expansion.
“We are Imo sons successful based at home and well established abroad in the Gulf Region” he said
He revealed that the association started its operations in 2009 but was commissioned in 2012 by the immediate past Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Benjamin Uwajumogu,who is now the Senator for Imo North.
The President further noted that as part of the associations activities, they donated exercise books (stationery) as part of their support to the Rescue Mission led administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha.
He also said that the association is soliciting for about 60-80 plots of land where they can invest into Real Estate as such if achieved would enhance and boost housing and enable members and non members of the association to be well accommodated.
The Secretary of the association, Mr.Philip Chibueze Uneze said the aim of the union is targeted at identifying their roots as true Imolites at home from abroad, stating that there is no place like home.
Mr. Uneze, said the association if backed by the government of the day would invest and add positive value towards the economic growth of the state just as he expressed readiness make the state look like Dubai in the area of housing projects and real estate.
He enjoined Imo youths to always be very determined,focused and know what they wanted in life, stressing that the association is open and ready to welcome new members especially those who are willing to add value in the state.
