Anyaoku, Okorocha To Attend Emmanuel College, Owerri 70th Anniversary

The 70th Anniversary event of Emmanuel College, Owerri, Imo State, has been rescheduled to now hold on Saturday, September 30, 2017. The event was earlier slated for May 27, 2017, before it was postponed.

The National President of Emmanuel College Old Students Association (ECOOSA), Ambassador Jude Agbugba, disclosed this in Owerri, after the monthly meeting of the Association. He explained that factors which necessitated “the unavoidable postponement have now been addressed”, expressing optimism that the event will be grand.

Agbugba was of the view that the new date is realistic and was arrived at after a thorough deliberation by the whole House. “Everybody including our brothers in the Diaspora has been duly communicated of this development. He stressed that logistics will no longer be an impediment to the event”, pointing out that “ECOL Old Students known for their doggedness, resilience and excellence, have resolved to show case the school in its splendor”.

Commenting on this development, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee (CPC) of the 70th Anniversary, Sir George Nwachukwu, explained that the Association has created the Diaspora Group under the Chairmanship of a seasoned Public Relations and Media Practitioner, Sir Ralph Ahanonu. According to Nwachukwu, who is also the 2nd National Vice President of ECOOSA, the essence is to ensure constant interaction with Old Students of Ecol abroad and ensure their effective participation in the Anniversary Programme and subsequent activities of the Association.

The programme of events for the 70th Anniversary celebration indicated that the event will commence on September 25, 2017 with activities lined up to precede the grand finale on September 30, 2017. The events include amongst others novelty football match, symposium, visit to selected orphanages in the State and Dinner night.

It is expected that the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha will be the Special Guest at the event while prominent personalities in Nigeria who either taught in ECOL or was a student like former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku will also grace the occasion.
