PRESS RELEASE

RE: REQUEST TO OBSERVE A PEACEFUL PROTEST IN THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (FUTO), OWERRI

The attention of the Imo State Police Command has been drawn to the mischievous circulation on the social media of a letter dated June 7, 2017 written by six individuals who claimed to be students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri requesting the approval of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State to embark on a protest in the Institution.

The posting of the letter on the social media is falsely and mischievously aimed to deceive unsuspecting students, staff and the general public to believe that the Commissioner of Police has approved the protest.
The State Police Command wishes to avail this opportunity to inform all students of the Institution, staff and the general public that the Commissioner of Police, Imo State did not approve the protest.

The State Police Command is aware that the University will start their examinations on Monday 12th June, 2017 and has therefore urged the institution to go ahead with their planned examinations without panic.

In the same vein, the Command has beefed up security around the institution and any person found disrupting the peace and the academic activities in the school would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
