Some stalls have been engulfed by fire at a shopping plaza located at Tetlow Road, Owerri.
The fire began in the morning hours as goods worth millions of naria were lost. Most of the shop owners made attempts to save some of their goods. No reason has been ascertained as the cause of the fire which started from one of the stalls. Some attribute it to an electrical fault.
Several attempts were made to put off the fire by the shop owners and sympathizers . The plaza had been marked for demolition by the Imo State Government last year.
Beside the plaza is the old Township stadium which was which was also demolished by State Government bulldozers in line with the State Government Urban Renewal Programme.
