A former member of the House of Representatives from Imo State, Hon. Uche Onyeagocha has been appointed co- ordinator of “New Nigeria Movement” (NIM) in the South East.
The movement is different from that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Coalition For A New Nigeria, a third force which he suggested in his open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.
It was gathered that the movement is part of the efforts of the former federal lawmaker to mobilize support for the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in the South East.
Onyeagocha joins former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, Mr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, Prof Pat Utomi, Prof Oby Ezekwesili, Prof Tunde Bakare, Col Abubakar Umar, Rabiu Ishayaku, Prof Charles Soludo and others as members of the movement.
A statement by an aide of the former federal lawmaker, Mac Enwerem reads:
“A prominent Igbo leader and a chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance,APGA, in the state, Hon Barr Uche Onyeagocha has emerged as the South East coordinator of a new political Coalition. This was following his recent nomination as the South East coordinator of the new political coalition in the country called Nigeria Intervention Movement NIM.
“The movement which has former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke, Mr Olisa Agbokoba SAN, Prof Patt Utomi, Prof Oby Ezekwesili, Pastor Tunde Bakare, col Abubakar Umar, Rabiu Ishyaku Rabiu, Prof Charles Soludo and others as members, is a third political force and a new pro-democracy movement of like-minded reputable and prominent political elites in the country who are committed to transforming and facilitating a new popular ideological power platform in the nation’s political system through electoral alliance. Also with the objective of addressing the fundamental flaws of the nation’s political system towards building a prosperous and stable Nigeria.
“Hon Onyeagucha whose nomination was recently ratified in a meeting of notable Igbo leaders in Abuja is expected to begin to play leadership roles of mobilizing the Igbos towards engendering a new political system and culture in Nigeria and at the same time ensuring that the people of the South East are mainstreamed into the pinnacle of the nation’s political equation.
“However, it was reliably gathered that Hon Onyeagucha’s nomination as the South East coordinator of the new political coalition in the country may not be unconnected with his rising political profile in the country especially his dogged and uncompromised fight against political injustice and bad leadership in Nigeria which many believe may have deared him in the minds of many Nigerians” the statement concluded
