There is a seeming disquiet in the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic as party stakeholders watch with keen interest unfolding political developments in the All Progressive Congress, APC and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in the State.
It was gathered that the speculated governorship ambition of senator representing Oweri zone, Senator Samuel Anyanwu had triggered diverse reactions among stakeholders and members in the party with many party members watching with bated breadth when the senator will officially join the race
This newspaper and other media houses had last week reported plans by the senator to join the governorship contest. The entry of the Senator into the guber race is expected to raise the tempo of the contest in the party.
Also, reports of the possible decamping of Senator Hope Uzodinma, senator representing Orlu zone from the PDP to the APC had also dominated discussions among some party stakeholders. While the mainstream PDP in Imo State are not on the same page with the senator for championing the activities of the Ali Modu Sherrif faction in the party, it is wondered what will be the next political move of the senator considering Governor Rochas Okorocha’s declaration for Orlu senatorial seat.
Senator Uzodinma had been widely speculated to stage a third return to the senate. This could not be verified as at press time. His recent support for President Muhammadu Buhari to return for a second term has been in interpreted to reflect his desire to head to the APC.
However, a party source who spoke on condition of anonymity told this newspaper that “the PDP remains unshakeable over unfolding political developments in the State particularly in the camp of Governor Rochas Okorocha over the Governor’s endorsement of his Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu and rejection of Prince Eze Madumere”
The party’s publicity Secretary, Damian Opara had told newsmen in Owerri recently that the PDP is not afraid whomever Okorocha fields as its governorship candidate.
This newspaper observed that some aspirants vying for various elective positions in the party have carried on with their aspirations holding nocturnal meetings to oil their ambitions.
