The long awaited primary election of the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to produce their flag bearer in the 2019 governorship election have ended in deadlock as the two days process couldn’t produce any candidate. This has left in its trail bitter vituperations among stakeholders.
With INEC deadline that all political parties should hold its primaries before October 7, APGA in Imo State is racing against time.
Our correspondent who monitored the process which had lasted for two days without any headway hinted that despite the huge presence of security men at Aladinma shopping Mall, venue of the exercise, the party could not conduct the said primary election for no justifiable reasons.
The delegates we learnt spent all day at the venue and willingly left when it was clear that there won’t any primary election.
A close source from the leadership of the party informed our correspondent under the condition of anonymity that serious meeting was ongoing.at last night on the development.
A document bearing the names of some of the aspirants had surfaced online where they kicked against the process. There was no independent verification of the authenticity of the document.
One of the aspirants, Hon.Uche Onyeagocha later in a statement, said there was no primary.
and called on the general public to disregard any information that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has emerged the winner.
Part of the statement signed by his media aide , Mac Enwerem reads:
“This is to kindly inform the public that the APGA governorship primary election for Imo State which supposed to take place today 6th October, 2018, at Aladimma Mall, Owerri, could not hold anymore. There was no delegate list, accreditation of delegates, no Returning Officers and INEC officials.
“Any aspirant who is parading himself as the party candidate is just deceiving himself. The public is hereby advised to disregard one Ifeanyi Ararume who goes about describing himself as the party’s candidate. All the thirteen governorship aspirants have unanimously accepted that there was no primary election in the state.
The general public should be guided accordingly.
The State leadership of the party is yet to officially issue a statement.
However in a WhatsApp post, Senator Araraume’s Director of Contact and Mobilisation, Chief Vitalis Ajumbe, said there is no need for all the attacks on the senator since he has not made any official statement on the outcome of the primary.
