The race to Imo State Government House, Owerri has been fierce and intense. It has been so because the yearning for change at the helm of leadership of the State has been resounding.
From Oguta to Owerri down to Okigwe, the quest for a new leadership, a pragmatic, selfless leader has been deafening. This is so because it is adjudged that Imo State has been pummeled by bad governance in the last seven years. Workers salaries have been inconsistent and pensioners now groan over non- payment of their due.
These and other factors motivated one of their illustrious sons of the State, Chief Ejike Chukwu to join the Imo governorship race. Chukwu is a successful businessman with interests in the oil and gas sector. He has shown capacity and has made a huge impact in the sector. As an entrepreneur who understands the relevance of the private sector in any economy, reviving the Imo economy for the overall good of the people of the State has been uppermost in the plans of the governorship candidate of the Africa Democratic Congress, ADC in Imo State.
Chukwu believes in the happiness and prosperity of the people and he has not hidden his passion to achieve this task. He has made it clear that he did not join the governorship race just to make up the numbers. He has outlined an economic master piece aimed at the reviving the State to enable it become competitive among other economies in the country.
Part of his economic plans for the good of the State is to engage the private sector through a public private partnership, PPP geared towards reviving most of the decadent infrastructure in the State. Such partnership will focus on building other valuable infrastructure in the State which will help the State to develop rapidly.
Human capacity development has featured prominently in the roadmap of the Imo State ADC governorship candidate with emphasis on the payment of workers salaries and pensioners of pensions. Chukwu has assured that when elected as Governor of Imo State, he will it top priority. There is no doubt that he has run one of the most successful and colourful campaigns in the State.
At Ohaji/Egbema LGA where he flagged off his campaign in a grand style, Chukwu said he has what it takes to take Imo State to Eldorado. He said he has plans for all the sectors of the Imo economy that will lead to rapid and increased development of the State. This has been applauded by many Imolites who have come to embrace Chukwu as the bastion of hope of the people of the State.
Indeed Ejike Chukwu need have loads of ideas restoring the glory of the State and he has made no pretenses about it. Imo State is in dire need of a liberator with the right ideas to take the State to the next level.
