The Ihedioha Oru Owerre Unity Football tournament kicked off in style at the weekend at Township Stadium, Owerri.
The event was organised to celebrate this year’s Oru Owerri festival, a rich cultural heritage of Owerri people celebrated annually
The kick off of the Unity Cup was witnessed by the member representing Owerri federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon.Ikenna Elezianya, member representing Owerri Municipal State Constituency, Hon.Solomon Anokam, Deputy Chairman, Imo PDP, Sir Martin Ejiogu, State Secretary, Nze Ray Emeana, Owerri Zonal PDP Chairman, Sir Bon Nwachukwu, State Woman leader, Hon.Chief (Mrs) Maria Mbakwe, State Youth leader, Hon.Aburi Williams Ahuonu and others.
The opening match between Amawom and Umuororonjo communities ended 2-0 in favour of the latter.
The kick off was performed by Hon.Mayor Eze, SA to the Governor on Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs.
There was huge turn out of Owerri Indigenes who came out in their numbers to witness the opening ceremony.
