There is an impending tsunami in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State as top chieftains of the party are said to have concluded plans to defect to the All Progressive Congress APC in the State.

Since the Supreme Court ousted Governor Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress, APC, as duly elected Governor of the State, the PDP in Imo have not had it so good.

The party shrunk from majority to minority status in the State House of Assembly when more than nine of its members including the Speaker, Chiji Collins, crossed over to the APC.

The State party Chairman, Charles Ezekwem resigned, citing “prevailing circumstances” in the PDP as reason for his action.

This newspaper however gathered that the gale of defections in the party is not over yet. This time, big names and assets to the party in the State are on the way out.

Sources said the some federal lawmakers of the PDP extraction in the House of Representatives in Abuja are good to go over to the APC.

A well placed source in the know of the moves told INNONEWS, “The gale of defections will continue in Imo PDP.

“When you displace an opponent, the next thing to do is to weaken his footsoldiers or turn them to converts.

“After PDP House of Assembly members had decamped, next to follow suit are some members of the House of Reps of PDP extraction. In a matter of days, they will decamp to the APC. Take that for free.

“Not PDP members alone, those other House of Reps members from the State who emerged from the platform of other political parties such as APGA, AA will cross over to the APC.

“Soon Imo will be a full blown APC State.

The looming defections are coming at a time the PDP in the State are holding a week of fasting and prayer to seek for the restoration of Emeka Ihedioha as Governor.

Ihedioha and the PDP had instituted a review at the Supreme Court seeking to revisit and reverse the Judgement of the apex court which sacked him from office on January 14, 2020.
