Owerri Municipal Council headquarters, Monday, became a boxing ring as Chairman of Interim Management Commitee, and Councilors of the Council, engaged in fierce fight over sharing of Covid 19 Palliatives alloted to the Council by the Imo State government.

The Councillors, 13 of them at a meeting with the Chairman in the latter’s office expressed dissatisfaction with him over the sharing method for the Covid 19 Palliatives.

The Chairman, Mr. Ambrose Nkwodinma, in return was said to have strongly kicked against the allegations against him by the Councillors.

An eye witness at the meeting said at this point, both the Chairman and the Councillors lost their cool and engaged in heated arguments.

Some of the Councillors who refused to leave the Chairman’s office were beaten up.

The Chairman could not be reached for comments as some of the Councillors lamented over the Chairman’s high handedness, intolerance and running the affairs of the Council like a feudal Lord.

One of the Councillors who spoke on condition of anonymity said one of the Chairman’s aides wounded the Supervisory Councillor with a dangerous weapon which made him bleed profusely.

According to him, he was taken to a nearby hospital.

Another source at the meeting stated that the Councillors were particularly angry with the Chairman over his insistence to share out the Palliatives to “Abumale Babes”, a group of young girls, who constitute as a praise singing group for the Chairman.
