*Inagurates ISIEC To Conduct LG Polls Soon*

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has given reasons why he delayed the conduct of local government election in the State.

He cited events of the past such as insecurity, killings and maiming, banditry, the actions of unknown gunmen, the endsars and the Covid 19 pandemic, as reasons for the delay.

He said these unsavoury developments did not create the enabling environment for the conduct of the LG elections.

Uzodimma made the revealation when he inaugurated the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu and two newly appointed members, Mr.Kenneth Chinyere and Chief Dominic Uzowuru, at the New Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to conduct the polls, which will usher in Executive Chairmen and Councillors, at the third tier of government this year.

He congratulated members of the Commission for making themselves available to serve, stating that the inauguration is a process of strengthening the ISIEC as a Body that will take the government to the rural areas.

He enjoined then to work hard to satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Imo State who have for a long time desired the conduct of local government elections.

In his response, on behalf of his colleagues, the new ISIEC Chairman, Chief Ejiogu, expressed gratitude to the Governor for finding them worthy to serve at this critical time of the political era.

He promised that they are duty bound to carry out their assignment, according to the oath they took, noting that they are ready to work to satisfy the yearnings of Imo populace.
