In aftermath of the Imo State governorship election held on November 11,2023, Senator Athan Achonu and his deputy, Hon Tony Nwulu, of the Labour Party, have taken their appreciation to international shores with a Thank You Tour Abroad.

The purpose of the tour, is rooted in the unwavering commitment of Achonu and Nwulu to express gratitude to Imolites in the Diaspora for their unparalleled support during the highly contested governorship election in Imo state.

Despite placing third in the polls, Senator Achonu is challenging the declaration of Senator Hope Uzodimma, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the polls by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Achonu had condemned the outcome of the election, which he described as a flagrant affront to democracy, characterized by deception and manipulation.

Senator Achonu, who jetted out to the United Kingdom, is expected commence a comprehensive tour across Europe.

His mission: to personally convey heartfelt appreciation to Imo citizens residing abroad for their steadfast support of the Labour Party during the gubernatorial election.

Meanwhile, his deputy, Hon Tony Nwulu, a former member of the House of Representatives, has concurrently launched a parallel tour to the United States.

Nwulu’s objective mirrors that of his counterpart – to extend sincere gratitude to Imolites abroad for their unwavering solidarity during the governorship polls in Imo.

Nwulu had addressed thousands of Imo citizens in some States of the U.S, such as Maryland and Dallas.

A chieftain of the party in the State, Elder Ben Anyasodor, who spoke on the tour of the duo, described it as a testament to the resolute spirit of Achonu and Nwulu, who are committed to acknowledging and honouring the immense support received from Imo citizens both at home and abroad during the governorship election.

He said “The overseas leg of their Thank You Tour is not merely a symbolic gesture but a tangible demonstration of appreciation, aimed at fostering a sense of unity and solidarity among Imo’s global diaspora community”

“In the face of adversity, Senator Achonu and Hon Tony Nwulu stand as beacons of hope, embodying the spirit of resilience and perseverance in their pursuit of justice and transparency”

“As they traverse continents to express gratitude, their message resounds loud and clear – that the collective voice of the people cannot be silenced, and that democracy is a beacon of hope that transcends borders and unites communities in the pursuit of a better future”
