The PAM Advocacy Network, a group supporting Prince Dr. Alex Mbata’s bid for the Imo East Senatorial District, has described him as the best choice to represent Owerri Zone in the Senate in 2027, citing his antecedents, private-sector experience and record of public-spirited interventions.
The group said the 2027 senatorial election should be decided on the basis of competence, character, capacity and verifiable antecedents rather than political rhetoric or campaign promises. It argued that voters in Owerri Zone now have an opportunity to demand a representative with the experience, exposure and capacity to effectively engage the National Assembly and advance the interests of the zone.
According to the network in a statement sent to INNONEWS and endorsed by its Coordinator, Evelyn Nwosu, Mbata’s strongest qualification goes beyond his philanthropy and empowerment programmes, which have benefited thousands of people across the zone over the years. It said his private-sector experience has exposed him to enterprise, investment, management and decision-making, as well as the practical challenges of creating opportunities in an economy where government alone cannot provide all the answers.
“Representation in the Senate is a serious business,” the group said. “It requires the ability to understand legislation, scrutinise public expenditure, negotiate effectively, build strategic relationships and attract opportunities to the zone. These are areas in which Prince Dr. Alex Mbata has demonstrated capacity over the years.”
The PAM Advocacy Network said Mbata’s philanthropic activities should also be viewed as evidence of his willingness to commit personal resources to the welfare of others even without occupying elective office. It said his interventions across different areas of the nine local government areas of Owerri Zone demonstrate an established pattern of identifying needs, mobilising resources and taking action. According to the group, such antecedents provide a useful basis for assessing his readiness for greater public responsibility.
The group maintained that the 2027 election should compel voters to examine what aspirants have actually done with the opportunities and resources available to them. It said the central question for Owerri Zone voters should be who has demonstrated the capacity to represent the people effectively before seeking their mandate. “Prince Alex Mbata has shown what he can do without political office,” the network said. “What we are looking at now is how he is going to use the institutional platform, legislative authority and influence of the Senate to do far greater things for the people of Owerri Zone.”
The group said it was not seeking to disparage any aspirant but to draw attention to what it described as Mbata’s strongest selling point — his antecedents. It expressed confidence that his combination of private-sector exposure, philanthropy, organisational ability and commitment to community development would position him to provide effective representation for Owerri Zone. The network urged voters to make the 2027 contest a referendum on competence, capacity and proven service, rather than merely a contest of political claims.
