Unity Cup For Owerri Community Set To Kick Off Oct 25

A football competition organized for youths  of Umuororonjo community in Owerri Municipal, is set to kick off.

The soccer competition tagged “Ugochukuwu Obodo Unity cup” is organized by a philanthropist and businessman, Mr.Ugochukuwu Obodo. 

According to organizers of the football competition, it is aimed at encouraging and boosting football development, and also promote unity among the youths in the community.

It is also designed to discover fresh football talents among youths of  the 13 participating kindreds  that make up Umuororonjo community.

As part of activities to make the event a memorable one, and ensure that participating teams put in their best, winners of the football competition will get a mouth watering N250,000 as first prize, while teams which came second and third, will get N150,000 and N100,000 as prizes respectively.

All the 13 kindreds which will take part  in the competition will get N20,000 each as consolation prize.

The organizing committee of the competition led by Emma Nwosu, also outlined prizes for Best player, Best goalkeeper, highest goal scorer, and best behaved team.

According to Prince Eze Oparaugo, Chairman, sub Commitee on Publicity, he said the football competition will be an annual event after the maiden edition.

All matches will be played at the Old Township Stadium, Tetlow road, Owerri, with the opening match between Umumba Vs Amahia kindreds taking place on 25th October, 2020.

The final match will played on 3rd January, 2021.

Dignatries expected to witness the football completion include; member representing Owerri Municipal State constituency in the Imo State House Assembly, Hon.Solomon Anukam, SA, Sanitation to the Governor and GM, ENTRACO, Hon.Mac Donald Ebere, Chairman, Owerri Municipal Council, Hon.Ambrose Nkwodinma,  Former Majority Leader, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon.Lugard Osuji, former member representing Owerri Municipal in the House of Assembly, Hon.Clinton Amadi, Chief Emma Ugorji.
