The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro has charged officers of a newly launched security operative in the state, Operation Search and Flush team to be diligent, professional and tactical in the discharge of their duties.
This was as he said he would not condole any act of misconduct, corruption and actions capable of hampering efforts aimed at restoring peace, law and order in the state.
Speaking during the launch of the special squad at the Command Headquarters, Owerri weekend, Yaro insisted that the current security challenge in the state demands proactive, selfless and collective approach to tackle.
According to him, the police and other security personnel must not be found wanting in their individual and collective roles of protecting the lives and properties of the people.
He also urged them to be conscious, timely and bold in the use of their firearms in protecting their lives and members of the public and facilities under their care, stressing that their mandate was sacred and sacrosanct.
The Imo Police boss further warned that he would not hesitate to invoke appropriate disciplinary actions against any officer(s) that derailed in line of duty or indulge in negative conduct.
In his words, “We want you to render selfless service to the people of Imo State and the generality of Nigerians that may come across to you. At all times, you must be willing, ready and able to render assistance to the needy members of the public.
“You must take this duty as a sacred duty. You must execute this mandate with passion, professionalism and enthusiasm. Don’t collect monetary gift or solicit for it.
“If I receive any complain of ineptitude, corruption, lack of empathy or assistance to members of the needy public, you can be sure that my reaction would be as appropriate as prescribed by the police regulation and act.”
He continued, “Our primary work here is to protect the people. This mandate is scared and sacrosanct. You must go out there and show exemplary commitment.
We want peace and security to be restored to Imo State. We want a stabilize environment for business to thrive.
“We want an environment that is created through the instrument of security for tourism, hospitality and services which Imo State is known for, to boom again. And I want you people to be the agents of change. I want you people to imbibe this new ideas, new commitment and new passion.”
“However, in the course of your duty, we have sufficiently armed you to defend yourself and defend the police facilities under your care. The arms we gave you is to protect the public, yourselves and other logistics under you.
“Therefore, you must be conscious, timely and bold in the use of your firearms. Cowardice is not going to be tolerated in this exercise.” he concluded.
