The emergence of Hon.Emeka Ihedioha as Governor Elect of Imo State has set the pace for a new order. There is a new government coming in with a different perception about governance.

We have no grouse with the Transition Technical Committee, TTC inaugurated recently by the Governor Elect. Any serious leader needs all the good heads to work with to succeed.

For those who wallow in naivety and attach mundane issues to such a noble initiative, it is important they are schooled to know that there must be a framework for any administration to operate with. In a State so much have been adjudged to have gone so wrong, we need to start from the basics, from the scratch.

Transition Committees are the foundation of any incoming government. They are the base for any government and shape the footsteps it wants to follow. It shows an administration that wants to succeed, not wanting to play to the gallery.

There is nothing wrong with those Ihedioha choose to be part of his Transition Committee. They are Imo sons and daughters. We believe they are Imo’s finest at the moment.Imo State is blessed with ocean of human talents. The State have vast reservoir of great citizens overseas and at home. It is time the people benefit from their various competencies and expertise.

For the Governor Elect to assemble such intellectual giants at a time that will work for the good of our State, then Imo is certainly on the path of recovery. We cannot afford to give away the task of rebuilding our State to brainless persons who will not understand what it takes to formulate a roadmap or direction for a government that has so much to do.

We believe Hon. Emeka Ihedioha understands the enormous burden that come with his Rebuild Imo mantra.Rebuilding a House is not an easy task. It’s a serious matter and only those found worthy can carry out such serious responsibility.

We recall former Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s postulations when he said Imo needs a mechanic to repair the State. And we tend to agree with him. As a former governor of the State, he had his reasons why he said the State is in dire need of repair, total repair for that matter.

No society can do away with its elites. The elites regulate the heartbeat of any sane society except in the Stone Age where everyone is lord and master upon his or herself. Elites of any society cannot be wished away. They are the brain box of the society. When they become selfish, there is always an antidote to curtail their excesses.

The task of rebuilding Imo State is not just for the elites alone. It’s a collective responsibility and we agree with the Governor Elect who seems to share the same perception. An inclusive government which he has assured he will constitute is a signal of his readiness to bring all on board in salvaging the State. We are waiting.

Imo is on the path of a new beginning. And we must walk on that path. We cannot condemn the functionality of a vehicle when the ignition has not been switched on.Throwing stones at a moving train makes the stone thrower look foolish. We cannot conclude that a ship is faulty when it has not started sailing. A trip to Lagos is more attractive with a first class flight to a bumpy ride in a luxury bus with deflated tyres!

Imo State must get it right this time. A new Sherrif is in town and he must be encouraged. He must catch the bad guys to clear the path for the good guys to come in to make a difference.

Ihedioha said he will step on toes. He must have his reasons for saying so. He wears the shoe now and he knows where it hurts particularly in a State there is a consensus that a lot has gone wrong. We must find out where the rain started to beat us to enable us get it right.

Those who wallow in self praise that they performed must be told that performance in public office is not assessed by the acclaimed performer but by those he leads. What the people say about a leader is important than what he says about himself. A student cannot score marks for his or herself.

The Governor Elect has shown signs of capability. His antecedents already speak for him. He seems to understand the burden on him to deliver and live up to expectations of the people. He carries a big cross, a very big one for that matter and we must help him carry it.

Governance is not a tea party. It is not a disco dance club. It is a serious business and only the serious can function and produce desired results. Ihedioha has started well. His first move by inaugurating a TTC is impressive. It shows he is focused and have his sights on what he wants to achieve. And there is so much hope and belief that he will perform.God willing,he will.

The Governor Elect has maintained a straight face to signal he means business in rebuilding the State. We must believe in our instincts at all times and because our instincts tell us he will get the job done, we must embrace this incoming government. We must understand that Imo is a dynamic State and only a dynamic and serious minded character can give us the best of governance.

For those who believe successive governments performed wonders as Governor, Ihedioha can improve, he can just do better. lmo belongs to all of us. In God we trust.
