There are strong indications that the present administration in Imo State may have foreclosed plans to create new autonomous communities.
This newspaper was informed that Governor Emeka Ihedioha is not keen to respond to further requests to create more autonomous communities in the State.
Imo State have more than 600 autonomous communities, the highest in the country.
The creation of such communities in the State have been flawed, mainly mirred in corruption perpetuated by past officials of the State Government.
Governor Ihedioha is said to be displeased over bloated number of autonomous communities in the State .
A source said the Governor had expressed worry at a public event recently where he said the number of autonomous communities in the State is more than the number of autonomous communities in Ebonyi and Enugu States put together.
A top official of the present government who confirmed the position of the State government told this newspaper that the idea of creating new communites is closed.
“For now request for fresh autonomous communities will not be granted. His Excellency is worried over the high number of autonomous communities in the State.
“It is alarming especially when you have a weak economy like the one we have in the State. Creation of new autonomous communities is a dead issue in the State at least for now.
