The coronavirus pandemic has made us understand that man is not solely in control of events around him.
The pandemic has put the globe on a halt and made us to re examine ourselves. It has made us believe that indeed we are mere pencil in the hands of our creator.
Never has the globe been at a standstill. Even the most powerful nations on earth have been overwhelmed by the pandemic.
The coronavirus has subdued the best of what modern medicine will offer. Civilized nations are crawling, ravaged by the deadly tentacles of the virus. It is the worst pandemic witnessed by mankind. Never have great nations been so pummeled by something they cannot decipher.
World powers- China, United States, United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Spain have all fallen for the ravaging virus. Daily, the number of those felled by the covid 19 continues to rise, with no hope, no end in sight.
The Earth is on holiday. The world is on a lockdown. The global economy is on the verge of collapse. Nothing moves, nothing works. The coronavirus has conquered all. World leaders who boast of might and power have been silenced by this pandemic.
The lock-down across the globe underscores the seriousness of the disease.Even the Spanish flu which occurred more than 100 years ago never arrested the globe the way coronavirus have.
We only pray for a solution- an end to this strange virus, an unfriendly friend that has made us to look sideways and begin to ask questions we never asked in the past.
The pandemic seems to have a pattern. Africa is on the low curve, compared to the alarming number of infections and deaths in United States and Europe.China where the virus originated from, seems not to be telling the world more about the virus which began in their domain.
With more than 70, 000 recoveries from the virus, from a total 80,000 infections, there is some magic wand the Chinese are not telling the world about the infection and how it is managing it.
Down here in Nigeria, the number of those who have recovered are impressive. More than 30 people have been cured of the disease according to the Lagos State and the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control. The United Nations gave us a pat on the back for the feat. This should spur us to do more. The Federal Government should encourage our young doctors to learn from our frontline medics how to cure the virus. There should be shared knowledge. This will help us contain the virus and cure our people, and reduce dependence on external aid.
I must commend some State Governors for some of the proactive steps they took to curb the spread of the virus. Fumigating the streets and major roads is commendable. Had such fumigation taken place in the past, at least to fumigate against mosquitoes and rodents, may be it would have gone a long way to make our environment safe.
Our attitude of allowing issues to degenerate before we act is really worrisome. Some States have set up Isolation Centres and it is strange we hear there are no ventilators in such centres. Some of us develop goose pimples when we hear such tales. we only pray such stories are untrue.
Covid 19 even if it evaporates tomorrow will shape and change our ways of living. We must brace up for this new reality. We must devise ways to manage our new holiday.
