A High Court sitting in Owerri, Friday ruled, that the August 25th, 2018 local government election held in the State, was illegal.
The election had ushered in local government Chairmen and Councilors during the Rochas Okorocha administration.
The Chairmen sacked by former Governor of the State, Emeka Ihedioha, are agitating for their reinstatement by Governor Hope Uzodinma.
The former LGA Chairmen and Councilors had vowed to return to their various offices in the 27 local government headquaters on November 30, citing order of an Appeal Court, as basis for their action.
Governor Hope Uzodinma, through the State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, C.O.C Akaolisa had warned against the intended action of the Chairmen.
In what appears a major twist to the ongoing drama, a High Court sitting in Owerri, presided by Justice E.F Njemanze, ruled that the LGA Chairmen had occupied the positions illegally on the grounds that the Local government election was conducted contrary to extant laws of the State.
The Judge further directed that the former Chairmen should return to the State government, all salaries and allowances paid to them before they were dissolved.
